Poker may have started in Persia. Many believe it was a derivative of a game called primero. Others say it originated in France.
To play, each player is dealt a set of cards, one at a time. Cards are not revealed to the other players until after the flop.
Before the deal, each player is required to put a certain amount of chips into the pot. This is usually a fixed amount, although some tournaments have a buy-in.
A good poker game consists of a large round table and plenty of chairs. The object is to win the pot by making the best hand.
